Project reflection 20/4/23

Overall, I am extremely proud of my research, development and final outcome. I feel my costumes and films conveyed each archetype well and will engage the audience with the bold colours and range of shots. For the exhibition, I will have a mannequin torso which I will dress with garments from each character costume creating an exaggerated amalgamation. I will also have my posters on the wall leading into the screening room as a teaser for the audience. This will hopefully give the viewer an idea of each trope I have represented, and intrigue them with vibrant visuals. I feel I achieved my aims of portraying exaggerated caricatures through costume and performance, and stayed on schedule throughout the process due to my action plans. I really enjoyed creating, filming, performing and editing the films, as it allowed me to fully embody these characters and shed my own skin. It was a very intense experience, as wearing these costumes and makeup made me reflect on the harmful beauty standards which plague our minds. In becoming archetypes, I was hindered by my constant fear of being perceived as unattractive and need for male approval. The idea of the male gaze was a constant thought throughout the project, contemplating how these tropes exist to keep women in a box of one dimensionality. These archetypes only exist for male pleasure, so it was important for me to construct characters which show the duality of women. We can be delicate as well as powerful, I felt empowered creating this project through reclaiming these tropes. My aim is always to empower women, and after feedback from peers I found I have achieved this.
